Is there a gentler, retinol-like option if my skin is sensitive or I'm nervous about retinoids?

Bakuchiol is a plant-derived ingredient often used as a gentler, retinol-like option for the look of fine lines, more even-looking tone and a smoother appearance; it is not vitamin A but behaves like a functional stand-in and tends to feel less stripping than retinol. Choose purified bakuchiol rather than raw babchi/bakuchi seed oil, which can contain natural photosensitizers, and still patch-test if your skin reacts easily. It's best not to layer it with an actual retinoid, since their roles overlap and stacking them mostly adds irritation without extra benefit. Despite its calm reputation there are no pregnancy or breastfeeding safety studies, so don't assume it's safe then — confirm with your doctor. This is cosmetic reference, not medical advice.
